Within the next 18 months, Microsoft will cease to offer any support for Windows 97.
Windows 97 operating systems can still be used but should you need any assistance from Microsoft, a blunt “you need to upgrade” is likely to be their only response.
Having undergone a recent migration from Windows 97 to the new Windows 7 software, I would definitely recommend making the switch – especially when coupled with Office 2010.
The updates and increased versatility of Word and Excel in Office 2010 are clear to see and, once explained, the daunting switch may not feel quite so scary.
